Web application addressing unsustainable A/C use at NYU Abu Dhabi. In collaboration with Joaquin Kunkel
Despite the hot climate of the Arabian Peninsula, indoor spaces at NYU Abu Dhabi campus are ruled by cold temperatures due to excessive air conditioning. In addition to being environmentally unsustainable, such conditions are also detrimental to the students’ well-being. Members of the NYU Abu Dhabi community can file service requests to address excessive indoor temperatures, yet the hassle of finding and filling out the facilities request form largely favors inaction.
The Accountability application prompts users to report about temperatures in campus spaces. In case of excessive temperature reports, the application sends automated service requests to the university’s facilities management.
By minimizing the friction of service request submission, the application ensures that collective grievances are met with collective action, which effectively puts pressure on the authorities to change the status quo, one degree at a time.
